Update: Steve Jobs died October 05, 2011 from his cancer. RIP Steve, you changed the world and we will miss you.

Earlier this week when Apple CEO Steve Jobs tendered his resignation letter to the board of directors at Apple he said the day had come where he could no longer do his job.

Jobs has been on a “Medical” leave since January and has not been seen or photographed in public for the last six months.

And now we know why.

Today, photos of an emaciated Steve Jobs surfaced that unfortunately tell his story of pancreatic cancer and the resulting treatments.

The photos are shocking and show just how far along Steve’s illness has progressed.

Believe me, I have been around many terminal patients and when they get to this stage it is just a matter of time before they pass away.

That will be the next Steve Jobs headline.

So sad.

I suspect with Steve’s high IQ and great wisdom there must also be a healthy dose of pragmatism as well.

We really debated long and hard before writing this story and publishing these pictures. But the Bible says God gives us the sick to humble the healthy, and He gives us the poor to humble the rich.

Somehow, we pray that whatever message this post can send will be sent - and you will hear it in your own way, for your own needs.

God speed Steve Jobs.

Stephen Hawking’s Genius Cat “Atom” Starts a Twitter Account

Famed theoretical Physicist Dr. Stephen Hawking is known for a lot of things – big things.

He is by far one of the most intelligent individuals to walk the Earth today, and is on par with Albert Einstein for his work in the field of theoretical physics and science.

With three influential books, research in Cosmology at Cambridge, a Ph.D., twelve honorary degrees, and the Director of Research at the Centre for Theoretical Cosmology at DAMTP in Cambridge, it is difficult to imagine what his everyday life must be like.

“Stephen in bound to a wheelchair and relies on the help of others for everything he does 24 hours a day. Most people have no idea what is involved in not only his care, but managing his travel and speaking schedules on top of everything else he does.”

What does a great man like Stephen Hawking eat for breakfast? What does he read when he wants to relax? What is his favorite color? - assuming “color” actually exists.

Well, now we can find out from “Atom”.

That’s right – Atom the cat.

Atom may not be as smart as Dr. Hawking, and certainly is a bit more irreverent, but Atom plans to share tales of Physics, the universe, religion, string theory, relativity, and anything else he wants on his new twitter account.

Really?

Yes, Stephen Hawking’s cat Atom has a twitter account.

Even though Dr. Hawking seems to think God was not necessary to create our universe, Atom tends to think He was.

Not wanting to offend his owner and risk being sent to the Humane Society, Atom decided to start a twitter account to share his views, humor, and insight into his life of being the world’s smartest man’s pet.

Atom says,

“There are just some things I wanted to get off my chest. I love Stephen but I think he may be a little misguided in some of his reasoning behind not needing GOD in the universe. I created my twitter account so I could express my views in a forum where I am free to be who I am – just a dumb cat who thinks God should have a place in every scientist’s laboratory.”

Atom says his twitter account is going to focus on humor and clever insight about Dr. Hawking and the universe with an occasional tweet about his views on religion.

“I don’t want to overdo the religious stuff. I’m just a cat, and most people already believe in God so I’m just going to occasionally point out a few things that force us as humans to confront the concept of God in our universe every day.”

We think this is the cleverest thing we have ever seen and a perfect example of how social media can have an impact on a multitude of people.

We can’t wait to hear what Atom has to say about multiple universes and string theory!

Video - NBC Drops Pledge’s Reference to God During U.S. Open Golf Coverage

The NBC Network has really got some people upset – including me.

During this weekend’s U.S. Open Golf coverage, NBC aired a group of patriotic children reciting the pledge of allegiance.

But right at the point where it says “One Nation under God” the network switched to a cutaway shot.

When the shot returned to the children they skipped the line referring to “under God” before continuing.

This is how it came across in the broadcast,

“I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation, with liberty and justice for all.”

Wow.

NBC for their part quickly tried to wash over the incident by having host Dan Hicks read the following statement,

"It was our intent to begin our coverage of this U.S. Open championship with a feature that captured the patriotism of our national championship being here in our nation's capital for the third time. Regrettably, a portion of the Pledge of Allegiance that was in that feature was edited out. It was not done to upset anyone and we'd like to apologize to those of you who were offended by it."

Why would NBC think reciting the Pledge of Allegiance in its entirety would upset anybody?

How is taking God out of the pledge patriotic?

Does NBC really think we’re that stupid?

One interesting note - the words "under God" were not added to the Pledge until 1954 when President Eisenhower signed Congressional legislation to add the words.

But when our country doesn’t have the balls to bring God into our national pastime or Government, we are really sending the wrong message to everyone – including our children.

Our country was founded on Godly principles, yet today there seems to be an effort to remove any reference to it from our national discord.

Shame on NBC.

I would be more embarrassed as a host to have to plug a Donald Trump reality show, or an interview with Snooki from Jersey Shore than to use the “G” word in a promotional spot.

What’s wrong with us?

Famous Physicist Stephen Hawking Says There is No Heaven and no God

You would think that smart scientists would at some point have to defer to God for their answers, even if it’s out of respect, awe, or hallowed wonderment.

But not theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking.

Hawking, 69 who suffers from degenerative motor neuron disease, told the Guardian newspaper,

"I regard the brain as a computer which will stop working when its components fail. There is no heaven or afterlife for broken down computers; that is a fairy story for people afraid of the dark."

He says there is nothing left for a man after the last flicker of life leaves the body, heart, and brain.

His remarks draw a line in the sand between the use of God as a metaphor, and the belief in an omniscient creator whose hands guide the workings of the universe.

His 2010 book "The Grand Design" provoked a backlash among religious leaders for arguing there was no need for a divine force to explain the creation of the universe saying,

“You don’t need a God to explain the universe and the creation of man.”

When asked what the value of knowing why we are here he said,

“The universe is governed by science. But science tells us that we can't solve the equations, directly in the abstract. We need to use the effective theory of Darwinian natural selection of those societies most likely to survive. We assign them higher value.”

Hawking has had lots of health scares during his life due to his illness, but none as serious as the one he had in 2009.

The famous theoretical physicist is best known for his theories on black holes, his best-selling book “A Brief History of Time”, and his 2010 best seller “The Grand Design”.

Personal Note:

It fascinates me when I see individuals with enough brain power to solve the theory of relativity, comprehend the infinite space of our universe, decipher the complexity of space and time, but not have the ability to put their faith or belief in a higher power simply because no one has proven it exists to them yet.

I don’t know if it is due to pride, ego, or a combination of both, but I think it would be depressing to understand all these wonderful elements of science and not be able to give the ultimate credit to God.

It’s as if God is standing right in front of them yet they are unable to see Him. They have brilliant eyes, but cannot see.

So sad. As much as I admire Mr. Hawking, I can’t help but feel terribly sorry for him at the same time.

Tonight, after dark, I will walk outside and stare off into the night sky, and there, I will see God.

And I’m not even a theoretical physicist.
